Players interested in large-scale tactical shooters can now try Hell Let Loose: Vietnam for free, as the upcoming military simulation game is hosting an open playtest through Monday.

Announced in 2025, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam serves as a modern-era follow-up to the World War II-based tactical shooter Hell Let Loose. The game retains the series' signature 50v50 battles while introducing new gameplay elements, including helicopter support and expanded air combat across six large-scale maps.

While the Vietnam War setting may naturally draw comparisons to titles such as Battlefield Vietnam, Hell Let Loose: Vietnam remains focused on a more hardcore milsim experience. Like its predecessor, the game emphasizes teamwork, communication, tactical coordination, and historical authenticity rather than fast-paced arcade-style combat.

The playtest is available through Steam, where players can join by selecting the "Join the Playtest" option on the game's store page. The test also supports cross-platform play, allowing console players to participate through the Xbox and PlayStation stores. Developer Team17 is also offering console-only servers for players who prefer not to compete against mouse-and-keyboard users, though console players will need an active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass Essential subscription.

The current build still has several known issues, including unreliable voice chat, occasional performance problems, and stability crashes affecting some AMD GPU users. Players are encouraged to submit feedback through the official playtest survey, though any experience points, unlocks, or progression earned during the test will not transfer to the final release.

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam is currently scheduled to launch on August 13.
