Ubisoft is promoting Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced with a social media campaign that has pulled in some unexpected names.

Instead of keeping the push limited to the Assassin’s Creed brand, a range of gaming accounts joined in by acting as if they had been “boarded,” complete with the series’ recognizable black pirate flag. Even McDonald’s got involved with a tongue-in-cheek post that leaned into the pirate theme.

Some of the crossover is easy enough to understand. Ubisoft-owned accounts tied to franchises like Watch Dogs, Rabbids, and For Honor also participated, which makes sense given they all sit under the same publisher. What stands out more is how broadly the campaign seems to have spread, turning a standard release promotion into a playful, pirate-styled takeover across social feeds.

The official Assassin’s Creed account added a little extra for players as well, sharing a reward code for a free pet monkey. Once redeemed, the monkey can accompany players aboard their ship while they’re out at sea, making it a fitting cosmetic bonus for a game so heavily rooted in naval adventure and pirate fantasy.

Whether coordinated through brand partnerships or simply a clever bit of marketing momentum, the campaign has done its job: players are talking about it. It’s an unusual way to spotlight a release, but for a game built around swashbuckling style, surprise “boarding” posts and pirate flags feel oddly on-brand.

Critical reception has also been strong. IGN awarded the game a 9 out of 10, calling it “more than just a shinier version of the same game you remember,” and saying that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced updates one of the series’ most beloved entries to meet modern expectations.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC.
